History of Sigurd, Utah
Located in the heart of Sevier County, Sigurd, established in 1874, was originally known as Vermillion. The community began as two separate villages—Vermillion to the north and Sigurd to the south. These villages were closely connected by shared history, schools, and eventually, incorporation.
Over time, the two villages merged to form Sigurd and received post office services. The Sevier River flows along the edge of the town, and the Rocky Ford Reservoir was constructed to manage the river’s flow and support downstream users.
In the early years, Sigurd featured railroad stops on both the north and south sides of town. Industry arrived in 1908 when US Gypsum established a presence here. Today, Sigurd has blossomed into a peaceful, picturesque community.
Family values and patriotism remain at the heart of Sigurd, shaping the town’s character and spirit.
